John Biddulph was the second son of Nicholas Biddulph of Rathrobin and Fortal, and his wife, Charity. His father, Nicholas, died in 1702, when he was two years old, and his older brother Francis, born in 1690, inherited Rathrobin and Fortal.
John Biddulph’s wife is unknown. He had five children, John,
Francis, Nicholas, Richard and Alice
- John Biddulph, a Lieutenant in the Army. He married Alice Scott, the widow of his cousin Nicholas Biddulph.
- Francis Biddulph, [1727-1826] of Vicarstown, Queen’s County. He married Eliza Harrison of Yorkshire in 1765. They had eight children.
- Nicholas Biddulph [1737-1799], of Glenkeen, Borrisoleigh, County Tipperary. He married, first, Elizabeth Dempsey, in 1759, and second, Hannah Cooke.
- Richard Biddulph of Skinners Alley, County Dublin married Prudence Tunkes in 1755. He is believed to have been a weaver.
- Alice Biddulph, of whom nothing is known.
A John Biddulph, Ballyboy, Offaly, cloathier, appears in a
Memorial in the Registry of Deeds, dated 27 February 1723. The name of John
Biddulph of Stradbally appears in two later deeds, dated 1728 and 1739.
He died about 1740.[1] His
children were still minors.
